Change without change?

This blog is predominantly about art & design, but like the description says in the About page, it’s also about all of the things that make me tick, and politics is surely one of those things. I may start putting the political posts into a separate blog sometime soon, but for the time being, this is where they’ll live, so please excuse my ranting.

There’s been something that’s been bugging me for a while now, when the majority of Americans voted Obama into office last November, it was done in large part because we were fed up with the status quo.  We wanted true change and Obama seemed the most willing & able to bring this much needed change about. He was relatively new to the game compared to others & had little Washington baggage holding him down, seemingly enabling him to achieve this goal. Sadly, I don’t think a lot of Republicans got the message, it seems that they didn’t pay any attention at all to what Americans voted for. Since inauguration day, they’ve been fighting hard against anything & everything put forth by the President, regardless of what it is. If a Democrat brought it to the table, forget about it, it’s socialism or some other bullshit line of reasoning that holds no water. It just seems like whining & bitterness that the seemingly endless reign of the GOP is finally over, and not a true concern for doing what neeeds to be done for America. Getting more and more extreme with your politics is only pushing your party in the wrong direction , its thinning the ranks of your party, and it’s not helping accomplish anything but boosting your TV ratings, which is really all a lot of these clowns are after (FoxNews, I’m looking at you.)

I know this is politics as usual, but is that what we want? Didn’t we vote to change this? How has “politics as usual” worked for us lately? Maybe I’m just noticing it more because I’ve become more interested in this as I get older, but it seems like it’s gotten much worse lately. The level of ignorance and inability to even see another point of view is staggering. Let’s get quit being a bunch of stubborn, finger pointing buffoons and work together to fix some of the things that are broken. Forget about bowing to the companies who contribute to your party, forget about what letter is next to someone’s name on the rolls, forget about all of the partisan BS, because that’s all it is, and honestly, the Dems & GOP aren’t all that dissimilar. Both parties are full of shit and are making a mess of everything, but it appears to me that the GOP has been the biggest roadblock getting in the way of getting any actual change by far. This is a shame, because I believe at the core, they have some good ideas & principles, but they’re getting far overshadowed by the nutcases. Try remembering who you’re here to serve: the American people, the people who are dealing with record unemployment, who have a hard time getting affordable health coverage, whose children have gone to war, who are just trying to make ends meet and who are just trying to secure a better future for our children, remember us?

Neither party has all the answers so please do me a favor and wake up to reality, put your  differences aside and start get things accomplished. This is a historic time, and I would rather remember this period in our country’s history as one of great accomplishment, where we overcame huge odds and triumphed like the America of days gone by, where we worked together and made things better instead of one where nothing happened because nobody could agree on anything and it was just politics as usual… again.

</end rant>
